My Little Home
by Stephanie Savir
I own a little townhouse
With living room so small
Two of us can barely fit
When passing in the hall
The walls have dirty handprints
The carpet’s not so clean
A few times in the pantry
Ants I have seen
The basement isn’t finished
The closets aren’t too big
Some day we’ll redo the kitchen
Then I’ll dance a jig
One thing about this house, though
I admit with grateful sigh
I thank Hashem for keeping it
So sturdy and so dry
Every time I’d like to complain
I have to remember this truth
Hashem in His great kindness
Maintains my foundation and roof
Baruch Hashem in Maryland
We did not suffer a flood
We did see our homes destroyed
By water and by mud
Thank you Hashem for my home
It is so snug and comfy
I need to appreciate what I have
Thank you for reminding me.
Thinking About Shidduchim
by Anonymous
To the people who’ve been talking
About the issue at hand,
How will all these girls get married?
What’s wrong? you all demand.
You feel so bad, you wonder
Why and when and who?
Is this crisis what He wants, Hakadosh Baruch Hu?
But have you ever made one phone call?
How about your brother’s closest friend?
Or the husband you just married,
Does he know young single men?!
Everyone knows someone,
Be it neighbor, cousin, pal,
Why not put in some extra time
To find him that special gal?
It’s so very frustrating,
To hear all this shidduch talk,
Articles, meetings, classes,
Are great – if that’s not where it stops!
Instead of “oying and veying”
Go ahead and make a call,
You could help your friend or sister,
Straight to the wedding hall!
I know it is not easy
Playing telephone tag – and yet,
It’s worth every bit of effort,
For the nachas that you’ll get!
May Hashem give us the ko’ach,
To care deeply for one other
And may we each merit to make a shidduch
For relative, friend, or brother!
